My first South East Asian experience took place in Bali and Lombok. Keen to explore further I journeyed to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. These countries less than nine hours away from Australia gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in a culture vastly different from my own.

Travelling by bus, boat, motorcycle, crammed in share-taxis and the occasional bicycle, I covered some pretty rugged terrain. Visiting remote villages where Caucasian faces were few and far between, the spoken word was quickly replaced by a non-verbal language of the body and soul.

Sleeping in a hammock high up in a pagoda, waking to misty views of the seemingly never-ending landscape and knowing that further down the hill lived a community of monks thriving on prayer and rice added another dimension to my life.
